Class Syllabus
- “Brush Up” (review proper brush care)
- Learn how to properly use and load flat brushes, scriptliner, and the scruffy brush
- A primer on the angular brush
- Explore project ideas
- Learn the strokes to paint branches, pinecones and holly berries
- Learn to paint a variety of pine needles styles
- Learn to paint simple snow clumps
- Learn the spattering/flecking technique
- Paint project as time permits
Pre-Class Prep:
- Purchase all the supplies before class
- With your paid registration, Michael’s would like to offer you 10% off your class supplies
VERY IMPORTANT: Basecoat Surface (call me with any questions-659-1581)
- 1. In order to complete the project in class, basecoating the surface in advance is very important.
- 2. Basecoat terra cotta pot using ¾” flat brush and apply at least two coats using Warm White. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next. NOTE: If your coats are thin, you may need a third coat to achieve opaque coverage.

SUGGESTED SURFACE:
- 6" terra cotta pot or surface of your choice.
BRUSHES:
- 1059 Plaid One Stroke Value Pack Brushes (best value) For this project we will be using ¾” and #12, #8 & #6 flat brushes, #2 scriptliner, and small scruffy
- OPTIONAL: 3/8" angular brush
PLADI FOLK ART PAINTS:
- Warm White
- Burnt Umber
- Thicket
- Berry Wine
- Engine Red
- Sunflower
- Inca Gold (Metallic)
MEDIUMS & OTHER TOOLS:
- 868 Folk Art Floating Medium
- 1060 One Stroke Brush Basin or any brush basin
BASIC SUPPLIES FROM HOME:
- Class registration receipt
- Paper and pencil for note taking
- Paper towels
- 5-10 Styrofoam plates–undivided and not paper
- Apron or similar, to protect clothing from splatters (optional, but highly recommended)
